The Beginning

Born in Germany in 1875, Sig Samuels came to Atlanta with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for building. Throughout the early 1900s, he helped shape the city through his work in real estate, theater management, and commercial development. Among his most notable accomplishments was the construction of the historic Metropolitan Building in downtown Atlanta.

In 1909, Samuels built what is now our longtime home at 906 Monroe Drive using materials from one of his downtown projects. Originally home to a pharmacy and grocery store, the building found a new purpose in 1932 when it officially became Sig Samuels Dry Cleaners.

A Piece of Atlanta History

Our building has always been more than just a dry cleaner.

For decades, it housed a remarkable Mosler cold storage vault where customers stored valuable fur garments during Atlanta's hot, humid summers—long before home air conditioning was common. The original "Burglar Proof Vault" remains in the building today, serving as a reminder of the craftsmanship and innovation that have been part of Sig Samuels since the beginning.

The Collins Family Legacy

In 1962, Tom Collins Sr., alongside his business partner Clint Mincey, purchased Sig Samuels Dry Cleaners. A Navy veteran and firm believer that "customer service costs nothing," Tom built the business on honesty, hard work, and genuine relationships.

Together with his wife, Mary, Tom raised four sons while growing Sig Samuels into one of Midtown Atlanta's most trusted neighborhood businesses. Those values were passed down to his sons—Tom Jr., Mike, Larry, and Jimmy—who each played a role in continuing the family tradition.

For decades, customers returned not only because of the quality of the work, but because they were greeted by familiar faces who knew their names, cared about their families, and treated every garment with the same attention and respect.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

Larry Collins became known throughout Midtown as "The Mayor of Midtown" for his welcoming personality and the relationships he built with generations of customers. His kindness, integrity, and love for the community helped shape the culture of Sig Samuel's for decades.

In January 2010, Larry was diagnosed with ALS. After a courageous 14-month battle, he passed away in March 2011. Today, his legacy lives on through his wife, Sheila, his two sons, Steve and Adam, and his four grandchildren.

Steve Collins, now co-owner, with Broy Crosby, of Sig Samuels, has proudly led our ALS Walk team every year since 2010 in honor of his dad and everyone still fighting this disease. Adam Collins spent much of his adult life serving alongside us at Sig Samuels, helping build the trust and friendships that have made our business feel like family. We are incredibly grateful for all he contributed before relocating to Marietta with his own family.

Today, Steve Collins and Broy Crosby proudly lead Sig Samuels into its third generation of family leadership. Broy is married to Tom Jr.'s daughter, Heather Crosby, and together they have two children who are already helping out around the family business when they're not in school—making the fourth generation of the Sig Samuels legacy well underway.

Together, Steve, Broy, and their dedicated team of experienced professionals continue the tradition of exceptional garment care, personalized service, and strong community relationships that have defined Sig Samuels for generations.

While Atlanta has changed tremendously over the years, our mission has remained the same: to provide exceptional garment care while treating every customer like family.
